“Way ayo ilaha.
Kon sa Ingles pa, “The show must go on.”
Singgit diri, tiyabaw didto. Mao kini ang naghatag kanamo ug igong kusog kay dili diay tanan nawad-an ug paglaom kanamo.
Pakpak ngari, pakpak ngadto; ang madunggan namo bisan nag-ulan pa pag-ayo. Wala na namo hunahuna-a nga lahi ming tanan.

CAMPUS PATROL YEAR 5
On its 5th year anniversary of Campus Patrol, an event celebrates yet again the yearly competition of news reporting and live broadcasting by the different schools of Mass Communication students in Cebu City. It was organized by the officers of the Cebu Alliance of Mass Communication Students (CAMS) in collaboration with the 22nd anniversary of the ABS-CBN’s news program, TV Patrol Central Visayas. The event was held at Parkmall, Ouano Avenue, Mandaue Reclamation Area, Mandaue City last August 13, 2010 at around 1:30 pm. It was hosted by one of the CAMS officer, King Anthony Perez of UP and Cathy Gabronimo of ABS-CBN’s Maayong Buntag Kapamilya.
It was started by a skit from the St. Theresa’s College (STC) which was a creative act of the Buhilaman Theater Organization. Their presentation was about the life of a journalist amid threats and danger. They presented it in a way where the audience became completely aware of what a journalist’s job really is. Anyhow, the skit never failed to entertain the crowd for they did inject humorous acts which made us all laugh. After the presentation, everyone was now settled and felt excited to see the guts and talents of the different schools for the event’s contest which was entitled “CAMS Got Talent.” The competition was judged by three respected people in their own fields, Mr. Gregorio Limpin, Mr. Ryan Barameda and Mr. Jun Rey Nadela. Everyone was cheering and felt really proud of their schools. Each school participant showed their very best for they all aimed at getting the trophy.
After the said competition, everyone braced themselves for the most awaited part of the event which is the Live Newscasting and News Production. It was judged by Haide Acuña (news anchor, TV Patrol Central VIsayas), Tata Cinco-Sy (Area Manager, ABS-CBN Central Visayas), and Judith Celnar (Event Manager of Parkmall). Every contestant showed their skills at the best of their ability starting from the director, to anchors, to field reporter and down to the soundman. They have been judged accordingly through their rewriting and making the news in just a short span of time and were also judged by how they deliver and present the newscasting to the public. The crowd cheered once again in a very lively manner as they were clapping real hard and were inevitably feeling downright nervous for their own school. There was also the contest for the Investigative Reporting by which the judges would only watch the recorded cover of the reports by the different schools.
After the very intense moment, the reporters from the TV Patrol Central Visayas in the name of Ms. Rachel Dangin and Mr. Reno Tallada shared their experiences in the field of broadcasting and were also pointing out the Do’s and Don’ts of a broadcaster. They also gave some helpful tips on how to handle things prior to the job. After the sharing, an open forum was conducted wherein the audience asks questions and they answered practically.
Finally, the winners for the different contests were announced and we are more than proud to say that the CNU bagged three awards out of the four. We received the award for the “CAMS Got Talent”, “Best News Coverage”, and “News Reporter of the Year.” The latter was won by Jenelyn Barangan, a 2nd year Communication student. Though we don’t have the great facilities that the other schools have, it was never a hindrance towards achieving awards if determination and teamwork exist in the heart of every Communication student. We’re proud to be a Normalite!

The Quartel Beach

-----a place for rest
-----a unit for relaxation
The one stop destination in Oslob, that has many stories to tell beyond its rich yesterdays, the Quartel Beach.
At first, Oslobanons trusted so much the foreign visitors ,that they don’t even discover the real motives of Spanish colonizers. Yes, they accept Christianity whole heartedly without thinking that this religious act might be abused by colonizers.
As what natives said, Quartel Beach was built for housing accommodation of Spaniards. As years pass by, colonizers abused the people. They forcibly demand and get what they want from people.
The Quartel Beach was the place where they punished and tortured Oslobanons. Females were used as comfort women and males were forcibly do labor. They do ruthless and cruel act of domination.
But bad deeds could not lead life eternity. One day, whole Oslobanons were gathered and corroborate in order for a huge plan.
They secretly attack Spaniards that night. People spurred fuel all over the place while colonizers are at rest. They put fire and let it burn including the cruel Spaniards.
At that moment, people were delighted, for they have now the freedom that they long to be. They eventually fight heartedly just to acquire the right of democracy.
Oslobanon's Tale

When I was a child, I learn to appreciate how Catholics prayed and gave importance to their religion. The story of my homeland is no exemption. I hear many stories on how and where the name place, Oslob came from. But one story, I could remember was from my favorite storyteller, my grandma that the Oslob was given by a half-Tagalog and half-Spanish priest.
That time, people were not yet engaged in what we call a “church”. Though, that time they already knew saints and patrons, and patronizing them through statue figures and images brought by Spaniards.

People of the place easily appreciate saints and was mesmerized by miraculous happenings. Later on, their lives change into meaningful perspectives and attach every miraculous event to patrons and saints. As the individuals’ faith turns to have a bigger population of believers, the assigned priest decide to have a bigger place and now we call it the “Church”, that could occupy a hundreds of its believers.
The church was build through the efforts and full support of the whole community in free labor.
From the tagalog word “lubos” meaning too much, the term Oslob was coined. In that way, the priest thanked all the community, for being a “lubos” believer to its religion. People always bear in their hearts and minds how the church was built.
Keep it up Oslobanon’s….
